Our Program

At OASIS, we combine outdoor exercise with community interaction and functional curriculum to maximize our students’ learning and engagement. Our staff and students are always on the move— developing real-world skills for today and the road ahead.

Life Skills

Preparing for the road ahead.

It is never too early to begin preparing our students for the most independent possible future. We focus on developing skills that translate to greater independence, finding meaning in these tasks beyond abstract steps. Each student works with a 1:1 aide, and we incorporate riding public transportation, handling money, doing laundry, preparing food, shopping for groceries, and so much more into our school days. True life skills happen outside of classroom simulations. All of our curriculum takes place in community, where skills are needed and life takes place.

In laying the foundation for the future, we find ways for our students to incorporate what they are learning into their home life. Independence is not just a far away goal, but a constant journey. We reflect that in our program. We work with parents to discover what tasks we can take over and teach. Students will not only be developing their repertoire of skills for independence down the road, but gain a greater ability to participate in their own family structure in the here and now.
